Terror suspect Viqar's custody extended

Hyderabad, July 28 : A city court today extended the judicial remand of alleged terror suspect
Viqaruddin Ahmed by 14 days after examining him via video conferencing.

The city police had nabbed the alleged terror operator on  July 14. He was remanded to 14 days
police custody. The Metropolitan Sessions Judge conducted the hearing in the  case via video-
conference as the police failed to produce Viqaruddin in person in the Court.

The judge agreed to the plea by the police that the remand be extended.  Viqaruddin was on the
run after shooting dead Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) constable Ramesh on May 13,
2010.

Constable Ramesh was on picket duty at Shah Ali Banda when Viqaruddin, along with an
accomplice opened fire at him and his colleagues. Viqaruddin was also suspected to have shot
dead  another policeman in the Falaknuma area in 2009.

According to police sources, Viqaruddin was arrested after two terror suspects whom the police
had arrested earlier, tipped them off during interrogation.

Viqaruddin also carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. He was a former Students Islamic
Movement Of India (SIMI) activist. Police had claimed that he is also linked to Pakistan's Inter
Services Intelligence (ISI).

Two killed in landslide

Guntur, July 28 : Two laborers were killed while another was critically injured in a landslide falling
from a hill which they were climbing at Gollapalli in Firangipuram Mandalam in Guntur district today.

Police said the three victims were climbing up the hill for setting off detonators in a quarry.
Suddenly, huge boulders and mud fell on them. They rolled down the hill with the boulders.   

Police said the landslide occured following incessant rains in  the area for the past three days.
The two bodies were extricated from the boulders. The deceased were identified as Murugan (35)
and Chinnabbaiah (23). The injured victim Chalavaraj (23) had both his legs crushed in the mishap.

All the victims hailed from Salem in Tamil Nadu and were working  in the quarry. The bodies were
sent to the government general hospital in Narasarao Pet. The injured was shifted to the
government hospital  in Guntur.
