Hyderabad: The city transformed into a haven for pop-culture fans as the Maruti Suzuki Arena Hyderabad Comic Con, powered by Crunchyroll, began with great excitement at the HITEX Exhibition Center on Friday. The event, which runs through the weekend, promises an exhilarating mix of comics, gaming, cosplay, merchandise, performances, and immersive experiences — making it a dream weekend for fans of all ages.

One of the biggest attractions of the day was the appearance of international writer and producer Mike Costa, best known for Netflix’s hit show Lucifer and popular comic runs on Venom, Transformers, and G.I. Joe. Joining him was artist J. Gonzo, celebrated for his striking artwork on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ghost Rider, and Alien. Fans had a rare opportunity to interact with both creators during exclusive sessions and meet-and-greets.

The Anime Panel & Quiz session drew a huge crowd of anime enthusiasts who showcased their knowledge and love for Japanese animation. As evening fell, the atmosphere turned electric with a live performance by Black Diamond Coup, whose energetic beats and dynamic dance moves had the audience cheering and dancing.
The laughter continued with the Comic Con Comedy Showcase, where comedian Vivek Muralidharan entertained the crowd with his witty takes on pop culture and everyday life.
A major highlight was the Hyderabad Comic Con Cosplay Contest, where fans brought their favorite characters to life with stunning creativity and craftsmanship. Participants dressed up as popular figures like Nezuko, Venom, and Avatar, alongside gaming characters such as Neon from Valorant, competing for a daily cash prize of ₹30,000.
Adding even more excitement, DreamHack — India’s largest digital festival celebrating gaming, esports, and creator culture — joined hands with Comic Con this year. Top gaming creators like Sensei IGL, Vanshaj, Abhinav, TraceGOD, Spraygod, Mr. Spike, Pardhan, and Hastar interacted with fans and hosted thrilling gaming challenges. The Red Bull Tetris Zone also brought well-known creators including Art Guy Rob, Kashvi, V3nom, Amya, Ghatak, Abhinav, and Scout for meat-and-greets, live streams, and esports battles.

The day was packed with gaming action, from the Android PAN FEST (BGMI) and KO Fight Night featuring Tekken 8, Super Smash Bros., and Street Fighter VI, to intense Chess at DreamHack duels and BYOD Tournaments where gamers set up their own rigs for friendly matches. Meanwhile, the Retro & Board Games Zone offered nostalgia-filled fun with classics like Pac-Man, Contra, and Monopoly.
Over the weekend, fans can expect even more excitement with events such as Hallubol, Rahil Mohsin’s new release, and the launch of “Biryani Khaane Jayinge!”, a unique travelogue blending food and adventure. Holy Cow Entertainment will also unveil the Ravanayan Hardcover, a reimagining of Ravan’s saga that promises to enthrall mythology and comic lovers alike. Adding humor to the mix, Syed Bashaar Live will bring a dose of Hyderabadi-style comedy to the stage, blending Marvel, anime, and DC fandoms in a hilarious showcase.
