Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Arrest 117 Suspects from 16 States in ‘Operation Octopus’
According to an official statement released on Thursday, police registered 78 FIRs related to 74 cybercrime cases during the operation. These cases include 63 trading and investment frauds, six digital arrest scams, four OTP-related frauds, and one social media-related cheating case.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) has arrested 117 suspects from 16 states as part of a special crackdown titled “Operation Octopus” conducted during the month of February.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, police registered 78 FIRs related to 74 cybercrime cases during the operation. These cases include 63 trading and investment frauds, six digital arrest scams, four OTP-related frauds, and one social media-related cheating case.
During the operation, the cybercrime police also succeeded in recovering ₹34.76 lakh and returning it to the victims.
Investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were allegedly involved in 1,081 cybercrime cases across the country, with bank transactions linked to the accused amounting to approximately ₹139 crore.

Police seized several items during the raids, including ₹36 lakh in cash, 221 mobile phones, 26 laptops, 115 cheque books, and 141 SIM cards, along with other important documents believed to be connected to the fraud networks.
In addition, authorities acted on 2,963 complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, registering 461 FIRs and arresting 11 individuals in nine related cases.
As part of cyber patrolling activities, police also managed to block 124 Facebook and Instagram profiles that were allegedly promoting online gaming and betting activities.
In one significant case, a suspect identified as Prasanna Kumar, who allegedly cheated a Hyderabad resident of ₹11.17 lakh under the pretext of marriage and investment, was arrested at Chennai Airport upon his return from Cambodia.
In another case related to cryptocurrency fraud, three individuals were taken into custody from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Hyderabad.
Police officials said the operation was aimed at dismantling cybercrime networks operating across multiple states and warned citizens to remain vigilant against online fraud and investment scams.
