Four burnt alive after oil tanker skids of a bridge and explodes in Odisha

The deceased included the driver and helper of the oil tanker and driver and helper of another vehicle moving behind the oil tanker.

Bhubaneswar: Four people died and one was battling for life in the hospital after an oil tanker skidded off the Badapandusar bridge in Itamati area of Nayagarh district and exploded with a big bang around midnight on Friday.
All the four were burnt to death. The deceased belonged to Sanapandasuar village.
The deceased included the driver and helper of the oil tanker and driver and helper of another vehicle moving behind the oil tanker.
The driver of the vehicle following the oil tanker died while trying to rescue the driver of the oil tanker.
The critically injured was first admitted to Nayagarha district headquarter hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
The explosion was so devastating that the trees around the accident spot were also burnt.
As per the reports the oil tanker from Paradip was on its way to deliver the oil in an oil depo when the accident occurred.
Sources said the oil tanker was in a high speed. It hit the barricades of the bridge and fell around 40 to 45 feet below the bridge on water after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the oil tanker exploded around ten minutes after it skidded off the bridge in the water.
Personnel of the Fire service department and Police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
In another incident 30 passengers of a private bus from Rourkela to Kendujhar had a providential escape after the bus in which they were travelling suddenly caught fire near Kanjiapani Ghati on Friday night.
The passengers got down from the bus after they saw smoke billowing from the engine of the bus. All the passengers are safe. Though the local Fire service was informed but the bus was gutted before the fire brigade personnel arrived.
