The party has given a second chance to sitting MLC Vijay Bahadur Pathak and former minister Ashok Katariya. Besides, the party has named sitting MLC and former cabinet minister Dr Mahendra Kumar Singh as its candidate for the third consecutive term.

It may be noted that besides being sitting MLCs Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Katariya are also the state vice-presidents of the BJP UP unit.

The party has named four new faces as its candidates in the council poll. State vice-presidents Santosh Singh and Mohit Beniwal have also been named as candidates. Santosh Singh climbed the heights in the party rank from being a student union leader.

Besides, the party has fielded former Mayor of Jhansi Ramtirath Singhal and Dharmendra Singh, who is co-media incharge and comes from Varanasi.

Sources said that BJP has left three seats for its allies. While Jayant Chaudhary led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has already announced its candidate, Cabinet Minister and sitting MLC Ashish Patel is all set to contest again.
