Hyderabad: In a significant development, Abdullah Sohail Shaik, the chairman of Telangana Congress’ minority department, tendered his resignation from the party today, marking the end of his 34-year-long association with the Congress.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to Shri. Mallikarjun Kharge Ji, Hon’ble President, All India Congress Committee, Shaik expressed a profound sense of sorrow and disillusionment. He recalled his journey from an eager young party worker to his current position, emphasizing his dedication to the Congress and its ideals.

Shaik, who held various crucial positions within the party, voiced his concerns over what he viewed as a deviation from the party’s core values. He lamented the recent changes in leadership, particularly the appointment of A Revanth Reddy as TPCC President, alleging a significant shift towards prioritizing monetary influence over genuine grassroots work.

One of the key points of contention in Shaik’s resignation letter was the allocation of party tickets. He criticized what he perceived as a disregard for committed party workers in favor of candidates with financial resources. Shaik highlighted instances where individuals were allegedly able to secure tickets through substantial financial contributions.

Furthermore, he raised questions about the application of the “one-ticket-per-family” logic, pointing out instances where this criterion was seemingly overlooked. Shaik underscored concerns about the party’s commitment to social justice, asserting that it had veered towards favoring a particular dominant upper caste.

Shaik concluded his letter with a stark prediction, asserting that candidates backed by Revanth Reddy, if elected, would likely align themselves with the BJP after December 3.

This resignation comes as a significant blow to the Congress party in Telangana, with Sohail Shaik’s departure potentially impacting the party’s standing in the region. The Congress leadership is yet to respond to Shaik’s resignation.
