Hyderabad: Today Dalit Sthree Sakthi (DSS) conducted a conference on the theme ‘women empowerment is nation’s progress’, at Ambekar Resource Centre, Lakadika Pool. Ms. Jhansi Geddam, National Convener of DSS presided over the function.

Other hon’ble guests that spoke on the occasion were: Dr. Jaya Latha, Director, MNJ Cancer Hospital, Dr. Pushpa Chakrapani, Academic Director, Ambedkar University, Ms. Usha Seethalakshmi, Research Scholar, Ms. B. Manikyam, TRANSCO, Dr. Padmakar, Ms. Sobha, Lecturer.

Ms. Jhansi Geddam: Our nation’s development is tardy as 50% of the women who constitute the nation’s population are not part of the development process. As long as women are not part of production and business ventures, there can’t be full-fledged progress of the nation.

If we see our neighbour China, the situation is different and as most of the women are part of the production process there, China developed faster than us. Only since about 40 years only women are allowed to educate and participate in the society.

Even now very small percentage of women are involved in production or trade or business and even that small percentage of women are from dominant castes, while dalit/Adivasi women are totally neglected.

DSS is striving to encourage dalit/Adivasi women and girl children to participate in the economic activity.

Dr. Jayalatha: Women should be encouraged to pursue higher studies in education. Women have the capacity and commitment to excel given the opportunity.

Women neglect their health, and it is necessary to take care of their health. All women should cooperate with each other for progress and development.

Dr. Pushpa Chakrapani: As suggested by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar women empowerment is possible through education and it is important to empower the women for nation’s empowerment.

It is only through education; women can imbibe the quality of questioning and participation in economic activity.

Ms. Usha: Women are working, and their earnings are utilized for the family, while most of the men spend their earnings on luxuries. Women are denied their share in the resources, and it is necessary to empower the women economically for nation’s development.

Book Launching: Telugu version of POCSO Act translated and published as a booklet by DSS was released by Dr. Jayalatha and Dr. Pushpa Chakrapani.
