The Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of the injection indicated is significantly higher compared to the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government, DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said in a release here on Tuesday.

The officials seized overpriced antibiotic Donem Injection (Meropenem injection IP 1 g) on Monday .

The product Meropenem injection IP 1 g sold under brand name ‘Donem’ is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of product shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

The product Donem Injection (Meropenem injection IP 1 g), Manufactured by Doctor’s Life Sciences (India) Ltd., at P.R. Palem Village, Kovur Mandal, SPSR Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, bears MRP as Rs. 1899 for 1 g vial on the product label which is a violation of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

The Ceiling price fixed by the Central Government for the product “Meropenem injection IP 1 g” is Rs. 952.68 for 1 g vial (Ceiling Price).

Hence Maximum Retail Price (MRP) including GST 12 percent should not be more than Rs. 1067 for 1 g vial (Ceiling Price+GST).

The firm overpriced the product and charged excess of Rs. 832 for one vial, which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.

Further investigation will be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

The prices of Essential Medicines shall be in accordance with the Ceiling Prices fixed by the Central Government.

Overpricing of essential medicines is a violation under Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators.
