Can Become Model for World if Taliban Follow ‘Real Sharia’: Mehbooba Mufti

"Taliban are emerging as a reality. They must not rule Afghanistan as they did in their first term," she said.

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti stated on Wednesday that the Taliban may set an example for the rest of the world if they follow ‘real’ Islamic Sharia in Afghanistan, which specifies rights for women, children, and the old.

“Taliban are emerging as a reality. They must not rule Afghanistan as they did in their first term,” she said.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader said the Taliban’s image during their first term was anti-humanity and anti-human rights, but that if they want to rule Afghanistan this time, they should follow the true Islamic Sharia as specified in the holy Quran, which specifies rights for women, children, and the elderly, and govern according to the prophet’s Madina model.

“If they (Taliban) adopt that model, then only the countries of the world will do business with them. But if God forbid they follow the methods used by them in the nineties, it will be very difficult for Afghanistan and the rest of the world,” she said.
