Colombo: The Sri Lankan government plans to import 500 buses under the Indian line of credit to be deployed under ‘the park and ride system’ in Colombo, it was reported on Monday.

The Daily Mirror quoted Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana as saying that these buses would ply on the busy Colombo roads so that passengers can park their private vehicles and use the public transport system.

Three such spots have been established in Makumbura, Kadawatha and Katubedda to reduce the entry of private vehicles into Colombo.

Besides, the Minister said 100 buses would be hire-purchased from Lanka Ashok Leyland Co to ferry school children in Colombo district.
