“I made a terrible mistake by sharing false information. No one knows what’s happening. That’s all I can do is wish him well,” de Villiers told the media.

Earlier, de Villiers had claimed that Virat and his wife Anushka Sharma, were anticipating their second child while giving reason for the star Indian batsman’s absence from the first two Test matches against England.

“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that,” he had said.

De Villiers issued the clarification on the sidelines of the SA20, where he was part of various media interactions.

Despite de Villiers’ clarification, speculations are rife that Virat would miss all three remaining Test matches, amidst BCCI’s silence on the issue.

The BCCI is yet to reveal the squad for the next two or three Tests.
