Jamiat Ulama appeals mosques to take permission for loudspeakers

Mumbai: The Maharashtra unit of Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind has appealed to all mosques in the state to take permission for loudspeakers from the state government. Its appeal came amid a row over the use of loudspeakers near mosques.

The state government will now make it mandatory for religious sites to seek permission for using loudspeakers as the Maharashtra home department on Monday, decided to implement the earlier court orders on the use of loudspeakers at religious sites.

Keeping in view this development, Gulzar Azmi, Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind Secretary of the Maharashtra unit appealed mosques in the state who have not taken permission for the use of loudspeakers in mosques for Azaan to take the permission at the earliest. Meanwhile, he claimed that most of the mosques in the state have taken permission from the police departments for using loudspeakers.

While praising the state police for its cooperation, Mr Azami also appreciated the Maharashtra government for handling the issue of loudspeakers saying that the state government is working to provide justice to all.

Sparked by Raj Thackeray’s remarks on loudspeakers, political temperatures in the state have heated up over the last few days.

Giving the ultimatum to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government that it should remove loudspeakers from mosques by May 3, Raj Thackeray warned that MNS workers will install speakers outside mosques and play the Hanuman Chalisa if their demand is not met.
