Mamata Casts Vote; Bhabanipur Records 53 Percent Voter Turnout

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister cast her vote in her home constituency Bhawanipur where 53 percent turnout was reported till 5 pm.

According to the data released by the Election Commission, the turnout in Bhawanipur was 53.32 per cent till 1700 hrs.
In the 2021 assembly elections, the turnout in Bhawanipur was 61.79 per cent . The turnout in the 2016 Assembly elections was 66.83 per cent.
While the turnout at Bhawanipur remains less than 60 per cent, Samsherganj and Jangipur polled 78.60 per cent and 76.12 per cent respectively till 1700 hrs.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee, who also is the Trinamool Congress candidate for Bhawanipur by-election was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the third time on May 5 this year. Therefore, she had to fulfil the constitutional conditions by becoming a member of the Legislative Assembly by November 5. Trinamool Congress MLA Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, who has been elected from the Bhawanipur constituency, resigned on May 21.
