Chikkamagaluru: The hijab row in Karnataka took a new turn today when nearly 30 students of IDSG Government First Grade College in Chikkamagaluru arrived wearing blue shawls raising slogans in support of Muslim girls.

The students in blue shawls were chanting Jai Bhim slogans. They were supporting wearing of headscarves in colleges as part of religious practice.

Meanwhile, nearly 30 students arrived wearing saffron shawls to protest against wearing of hijab.

While the students wearing saffron shawls chanted Jai Ram, those wearing blue shawls countered them by raising Jai Bhim slogans. As the situation on the campus became tense, the teaching staff intervened and asked the students to maintain calm.

The college declared a holiday to avoid any untoward incident and principal Dr. K. A. Rajanna asked the students to disperse, The Hindu reported.
