Madras HC CJI made SAFEMA Chairman, to assume office after retirement

Justice Bhandari is required to take charge within 30 days from the date of issue of this order.

Chennai: Madras High Court Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari has been appointed as Chairman of the appellate tribunal under SAFEMA for a period of four years.

He would assume that office after retiring from the Madras High Court on Monday. An Order from the Union Government said “the President of India is pleased to appoint Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari as Chairman, Appellate Tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA) for a period of four years or till attaining the age of 70 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier in terms of Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules 2021, read with Tribunal Reforms Act, 2021, published on August 13, 2021.”

Justice Bhandari is required to take charge within 30 days from the date of issue of this order.

He is also requested to submit his medical fitness from an authority specifiedby the Central Government before assuming charge of the post as Chairman in the Tribunal, the Order said.
