Son Kills Mom in TN: Mahila Court Awards Death Penalty
Passing orders in the matricidal case, the Court awarded death penalty to accused Anand on the ground that the prosecution has proved the case beyond any reasonable doubt.
Pudukottai(Tamil Nadu): A Mahila Court in Pudukottai on Friday convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old youth for killing his mother over a property dispute in 2018.
Passing orders in the matricidal case, the Court awarded death penalty to accused Anand on the ground that the prosecution has proved the case beyond any reasonable doubt.
The prosecution case was that Anand had killed his widowed mother following a property dispute and carried the decapitated head to the police station and surrendered.
The incident took place in March 2018 and it had sent shock waves in the locality.
After the death of her husband Rani (50) lived with her three sons and a daughter at Maravanpatti near Mazhaiyur and the siblings used to quarrel with her frequently over sharing the ancestral property.
Eyeing for his share in the property, Anand had taken money from a realtor as advance after assuring him to sell the property. However, his mother had stoutly opposed it and asked him to return the advance money to the realtor.
When Anand picked up quarrel with his mother over the issue once again while she was leaving for a church to participate in Sunday prayers, Anand in a fit of rage, attacked her with a sickle, killing her on the spot.
He had surrendered before the police with the severed head and police retrieved the torso of Rani and sent it to the Pudukkottai Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Police registered a murder case against Anand and the trial was held at the Mahila Court.
After completion of the trial, the Mahila Court convicted the accused and awarded death sentence to him today.
