Despite the launch of metro services in Hyderabad in 2017, the progress came to a halt at the Mahatma Gandhi bus stand due to objections from the Majlis party. L&T, facing challenges with the alternative route proposed by the Majlis party and an expired agreement period, expressed its inability to
proceed with the project due to increased costs.
During an all-party meeting organized by the previous government on December 9, 2014, Majlis party MLAs obstructed the original proposal for the Old City Metro. The interference by Majlis leaders led to cost escalation exceeding Rs 2000 crores for the stretch from Imiliban to Falaknuma.
The Congress Party, opposition parties, and citizen forums have been consistently raising their concerns and staging protests, demanding metro rail facilities to the Old City.
They held the Majlis leaders accountable for the 7 to 8 years delay in providing metro services to the Old City, and demaned them to apologize to the residents.
The Citizens demanded Chief Minister Revanth Reddy allocate the necessary funds promptly and give priority to expediting the metro services for the people of the Old City.
