Pune: Shevgaon under control; arrest of rioters continues

Police have succeeded in controlling the situation in the Shevgaon city by deploying the additional state Reserve Police Force units and held discussions with social activists and various political parties.

Pune/Ahmednagar: Tension still remains but under control in Shevgaon towns due to sudden stone pelting during the procession on the occasion of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary last night.

Many shops and vehicles were damaged in this stone pelting. Some policemen were also injured in the stone pelting that took place Sunday night at Shevgaon but the police tried to keep the situation under control by deploying heavy police bandobast.

The additional police force from Ahmadnagar district also deployed and monitoring the situation, said police. Srirampur Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandeep Metke rushed to Shevgaon and brought the situation under control in his usual manner.

Meanwhile, after the night incident, the police are on action mode and booked 150 people so far for rioting.

Many people are discussing that it is police failure which got no information earlier about the riots.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola, Upper Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent have appealed to the citizens not to believe any falsehoods and claimed that there is peace in the city of Ahmednagar and Shegaon.
