UP: Eight injured as 3 coaches of Darbhanga special train catch fire

Police sources said that the incident took place at Sarai Bhupat railway station when the S1 coach caught fire reportedly due to a short circuit.

Etawah (UP): Eight passengers were injured when three coaches of Darbhanga Express between New Delhi and Darbhanga in Bihar caught fire in Etawah district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that the incident took place at Sarai Bhupat railway station when the S1 coach caught fire reportedly due to a short circuit.

“The fire spread to other coaches and engulfed S2 and S3 coaches. The passengers were boarding and deboarding the train when the incident took place,” they said.

Police sources said that Manoj (37), Akriti (10), Raunak (12), Dayanand Mandal (55), Sunita Devi (50), Kanchan Devi (40), Harendra Yadav (26) and Tillu Mukhiya (18) were injured in the incident. “The injured have been admitted to the hospital,” they said.

Police sources said that the fire tenders were summoned on the spot which controlled the fire. “Coach number S1 was completely gutted in the fire,” they said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar Verma said that 5 to 10 passengers sustained minor injuries in the incident. He said that the cause of the fire is still to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, train traffic on Delhi-Howrah route passing through Etawah has been disrupted after the incident.
