Monsoon intensified across Telangana; Heavy rain likely in next 48 hrs

A three-day monsoon forecast has been given for the State indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few districts including Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Warangal (Rural) and Warangal (Urban).

Hyderabad: As the monsoon intensified across the state of Telangana, rains lashed parts of the city overnight on Tuesday. Several localities in the city, including Hayathnagar, Kapra, Uppal, Malkajgiri, Saroornagar, LB Nagar, Dilsukhnagar and Saidabad received heavy rains overnight. 

Till midnight, Kapra recorded the highest rainfall of 40 mm, followed by Uppal (31.5 mm), Serilingampalli (30.8 mm) and Malkajgiri 29.5 mm, Cherlapally, Kukatpally, Bandlaguda and Nampally also experienced moderate rains. 

According to the Telangana State Development Planning society forecast, the city may witness heavy rainfall for the next three days. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 28 to 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will likely range from around 21 to 23 degrees Celsius.

Several other districts including Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Yadadri-Bhongir, Kamareddy, Jangaon, Rajanna Sircilla and Jagtial also received heavy rainfall.  Mendora in Nizamabad district received the highest rainfall of 108.3 mm on Tuesday.

A report from UNI suggests that heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in few districts of Telangana during the next 48 hours, Meteorological Centre here said on Wednesday.

In a bulletin, it said that heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in a few districts of the state during the next five days.

Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in few districts of Telangana during the next 48 hours.

Light to moderate rain or Thundershowers is likely to occur at most places or at many places over the state during the next five days.

Southwest Monsoon has been active over Telangana during the last 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Nagar Kurnool and heavy rainfall occurred at a few places in Peddapalli and at isolated places in Nirmal, Nalgonda, Mancherial, Mahabubnagar & Wanaparthy districts of the state during the same period.

Rain occurred at most places over Telangana during the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.

In a special bulletin, Met said that the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood now lies over north Odisha & adjoining Chhattisgarh and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level.

An east west shear zone runs roughly along 20°N between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height across North Peninsular India, the bulletin added.
