Muslim scholar reprimands event organisers for inviting girl on stage; Kerala Guv reacts

A Muslim scholar publicly scolds organisers of an event for inviting a girl on stage to receive an award in Kerala’s Malappuram district. The video of the incident went viral on social media. The incident has created a storm drawing flak from every corner.

When one of the organisers invited a girl, Mashida P V, to the dais to receive an award, the scholar, M T Abdulla Musaliyar, who was attending the inauguration of a Madrasa building at Ramapuram in the district criticised one of the organisers, saying: “Who told you to invite a Class 10 girl to the stage… If you do this again… I will show you… Don’t call such girls here… Don’t you know the decision of the Samastha? Did you call her?… Please ask her parent to come to the stage.” The Indian Express reported.

Reacting upon the incident, the Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohd Khan expressed sadness over the humiliation of the talented girl.

“Sad to know that a young talented girl was humiliated on stage in Malappuram district while receiving a well deserved award simply because she was born into a Muslim family”

He blamed Muslim clerics for pushing Muslim women into seclusion and called it total defiance of Quranic commands.

“This is yet another example of how Muslim clerics continue to push hard Muslim women into seclusion and  suppress their personality in total defiance of Qur’anic commands and provisions of the Constitution”

He claimed that women have similar rights as men in Islam.

“Holy Qur’an says – ” And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them according to what is fair and reasonable, but men have an added degree of RESPONSIBILITY towards  them -2.228″

He expressed surprise that no one has spoken, no cognizance taken on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Child Rights Commission has taken a suo motto action and a case was registered. The  Commission sought a statement from the Samastha secretary on the matter and a detailed report of the incident in Malappuram from the Perinthalmanna SHO and the district child protection officer.
