Phone Tapping Issue Is a Drama to Divert Attention From BC Reservations: Kavitha at Satya Narayana Birth Anniversary Event

Senior leader and Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday alleged that the phone tapping investigation is a “deliberate drama” aimed at diverting public attention from the long-pending demand for 42 percent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in upcoming municipal elections.

She was speaking at the birth anniversary programme of Telangana movement leader and former minister M. Satya Narayana, held at the Telangana Jagruti office in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.
Tribute to Satya Narayana, Voice for the Marginalised
Floral tributes were paid to M. Satya Narayana, remembered as a committed leader who fought for the rights of backward and weaker sections. Kavitha said several such activists were ignored by previous governments despite their sacrifices for Telangana.
She demanded that a statue of Satya Narayana be installed at Tank Bund, stating that future generations must be inspired by Telangana movement leaders.
Phone Tapping Probe a “Planned Distraction”
Addressing the gathering, Kavitha alleged that the phone tapping issue was being projected intentionally to shift focus away from BC reservations.
- She claimed certain political figures were acting in coordination
- Said the investigation would not deliver justice to victims
- Alleged both Congress and BRS were misleading backward classes
“The timing of this issue proves it is meant to silence BC voices before municipal elections,” she said.
Allegations Over BC Census and Municipal Elections
Kavitha accused the Congress of under-reporting BC population in the BC census, calling it a betrayal of backward communities. She said the upcoming caste-based census by the Centre would expose this injustice.
She also questioned why 42 percent BC reservation was not being implemented in municipal elections and warned against conducting polls without ensuring social justice.
Telangana Jagruti’s Stand and Future Plans
Kavitha clarified that Telangana Jagruti is not yet a full-fledged political party, but will extend support to BCs, SCs, STs, minorities, youth, and women who approach it.
She announced plans to:
- Collect detailed caste and sub-caste data
- Organise a round table conference with BC intellectuals
- Encourage youth and women to treat municipal elections as political training
Remembering Telangana’s Forgotten Heroes
Kavitha stressed the need to officially observe birth and death anniversaries of Telangana movement martyrs, including Sri Kantha Chary, if Telangana Jagruti comes to power in the future.
“Crime is crime, injustice is injustice—no matter who commits it. Telangana’s heroes deserve recognition,” she said, adding that Tank Bund must also reflect Telangana’s leadership history.
Strong Message to the Public
Concluding her speech, Kavitha said “Telangana First” remains Telangana Jagruti’s slogan and urged people to see through political distractions. She reiterated that justice to backward classes is not possible without proportional representation.
