“I will be out for weeks and have pulled out of US Open. This isn’t ideal and it’s terrible timing and it will change some of my retirement plans but I will keep you posted,” she added.

After reaching the semifinals of the women’s doubles at the Canadian Open alongside partner Madison Keys, Mirza also featured at the Cincinnati Open last week.

The six-time grand slam champion, who is also a former women’s doubles world number one, has won the women’s doubles titles at Wimbledon, Australian Open and US Open, and finished second at the French Open.

She has also won the mixed doubles titles at the French Open, Australian Open and the US Open.
