Is Hyderabad better or Bengaluru? Debate takes twitter by storm

Hyderabad: Is Hyderabad better or Bengaluru? An entrepreneur’s tweet last week about the lack of facilities in India’s own Silicon Valley has stirred a debate on twitter.

Complaining about the poor basic infrastructure in Bengaluru, Ravish Naresh, the CEO and co-founder of Khata Book, on March 30 had tweeted: “Startups in HSR/Koramangala (India’s Silicon Valley) are already generating billions of $ of taxes. Yet we have bad roads, almost daily power cuts, poor quality water supply, unusable footpaths. Many rural areas now have better basic infra than India’s Silicon Valley. Also the nearest airport is ~3hrs away in peak traffic.”

Reacting to Naresh’s tweet, Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao boasted of better physical and equally better social infrastructure in Hyderabad and invited the entrepreneur to Telangana, whose capital Hyderabad is a major technology industry center too.

He wrote: “Pack your bags & move to Hyderabad!,” the Telangana minister tweeted. “We have better physical infrastructure & equally good social infrastructure. Our airport is 1 of the best & getting in & out of the city is a breeze. More importantly our govt’s focus is on 3-i Mantra; innovation, infrastructure & inclusive growth.”

In response to KTR’s tweet, Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar promised to “restore Bengaluru’s glory” if it returns to power next year.

He tweeted: “My friend, I accept your challenge. By the end of 2023, with the Congress back in power in Karnataka, we will restore the glory of Bengaluru as India’s best city.”

Taking a dig at BJP government of Karnataka which has kept itself busy in halal and hijab issue instead of focusing on the development of the state, KTR tweeted: “Dear @DKShivakumar Anna, I don’t know much about politics of Karnataka & who will win but challenge accepted Let Hyderabad & Bengaluru compete healthily on creating jobs for our youngsters & prosperity for our great nation. Let’s focus on infra, IT&BT, not on Halal & Hijab.”

The minister’s response garnered a lot of buzz, with it receiving a lot of feedback and almost 6,000 likes.

Twitterati also jumped into the debate days later. A twitter user tagging KTR states:

FYI, of total 1500 startup deals in 2021 in India, Bengaluru received 551(36.7%)deals with capital investment of 21.5B$ whereas Hyderabad received 54(3.6%) with capital investment of just 0.5B$ So u both come out of ur La la land & pack ur bags

Another user Prof Nageshwar advises Hyderabad not to indulge in hijab and halal politics like Bengaluru. He says: “37 out of 95 Unicorns in India are in Bengaluru. This Silicon Valley of India hosts 40 percent of Unicorns and soon to be Unicorns. But, politics revolves around hijabs and halals. At least save Hyderabad from such madness.”

Another wrote: “Indeed “Inclusive” Growth in #Hyderabad, unlike the “Exclusive” growth in #Bengaluru.”
