Devastating rain lashes Bengaluru: AP woman engineer drowns


Bengaluru: Bengaluru received heavy rain with thunder on Sunday afternoon. The hailstorm that started at 3 pm continued for more than an hour. Due to strong winds, trees fell at many places and vehicles were destroyed, while water entered the underpass in KR circle.

A woman software engineer died after her car got stuck in the water. Local people and the police rescued the people trapped in the car and shifted them to the hospital.

22-year-old Bhanu Rekha, a young woman engineer from Andhra Pradesh, died in Bangalore. She had gone to Bangalore from Vijayawada with her family. Seven members of Bhanu Rekha’s family had gone to Bangalore from Vijayawada during the summer vacation. Heavy flood water reached the underpass on KR Circle in the city. The family drove the car forward without anticipating the water, thinking that the car will come out of it. But the car got stuck in the water and water entered the car. 

Six members of the family managed to get out with the help of local people. But, the young woman gulped water and found it difficult to breathe. She was taken to hospital where she died during treatment.

As soon as the information was received, the emergency service personnel reached the spot. Locals threw sarees and ropes to pull them out of the car. After which 6 people were retrieved. 

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Bengaluru Hospital. He met the family members of Bhanu Rekha and announced a compensation of five lakh rupees.

 Anand Rao, Majestic, Race Course, KR Circle, Town Hall, Corporation, Mysore Bank Circle, Jayanagar, Malleshwar areas of Bangalore city were flooded due to heavy rain. At many places, heavy trees fell on the vehicles parked on the side of the road and vehicles were destroyed. A tree fell on a luxury car on Race Course Road. A large tree fell on a car and a bike in front of Chitrakala Parishad on Kumar Karpa Road and the vehicles were completely damaged.
