Mysuru: The BJP has registered a complaint with the forest department against Congress leaders for violating wildlife norms inside Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR).
The complaint was registered on Saturday morning against Rahul Gandhi, KJ George, Siddaramaiah and HC Mahadevappa.
The BJP complained that the Congress leaders violated the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which prohibits entry into the tiger reserve without permission and getting down from vehicles on the main BTR road on Friday morning.
BJP also alleged that the entry was allowed by the forest officials to the Congress leaders from Mudumalai and Karnataka side ahead of the scheduled entry timing of 6 am. Traffic movement is prohibited during nights, except emergency vehicles and four tourist buses.
Siddamaramaih entered BTR from Karnataka side and Rahul Gandhi’s convoy entered from Tami Nadu’s Mudumalai’s side. They met inside the forest between Kekkanahalla and Melukamanahalli check posts, BJP alleged.
They alighted from their vehicles and exchanged bouquets and greeted each other which is a gross violation of forest laws. Siddaramaiah then climbed Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle to enter Karmataka’s Gundlupet, BJP alleged.
