Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced that railway development works worth nearly ₹47,984 crore are currently underway in Telangana, marking one of the largest infrastructure pushes for the state’s railway network. The railway development projects in Telangana aim to modernize stations, improve passenger facilities, and expand rail connectivity across the region.

Speaking after inspecting redevelopment works at Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station, the Union Minister said the project is part of a broader plan to upgrade railway infrastructure and meet the growing passenger demand in Telangana.

Major Railway Development Projects Worth ₹47,000 Crore in Telangana

The ₹47,984 crore railway investment in Telangana includes several modernization and expansion initiatives designed to strengthen the state’s railway infrastructure.

  • Modern restaurants and food courts

The project has received ₹350 crore in funding, with ₹327 crore already finalized through the tender process. The redevelopment works are expected to be completed by 2027.

Daily Passenger Traffic at Hyderabad Deccan Station

The Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station redevelopment project is aimed at handling increasing passenger demand.

Current station usage:

  • Around 60 trains operate daily
  • Nearly 20,000 passengers use the station every day

Officials believe the upgraded infrastructure will significantly improve passenger convenience and travel experience.

Railway Investment in Telangana Sees Major Growth

The railway investment in Telangana has increased significantly over the past decade.

According to officials:

  • Annual railway funding increased from ₹258 crore to ₹5,454 crore
  • 346 km of new railway lines have been completed
  • 513 km of railway lines have been doubled, tripled, or upgraded
  • 1,979 km of railway track electrification completed

These developments aim to strengthen connectivity and improve the efficiency of the railway network in Telangana.

42 Railway Stations Being Modernized

As part of the Telangana railway modernization program, a total of 42 railway stations across the state are being upgraded.

Some of the key stations undergoing modernization include:

  • Cherlapalli Railway Terminal
  • Karimnagar Railway Station
  • Begumpet Railway Station
  • Warangal Railway Station

The projects aim to provide better facilities, improved connectivity, and modern infrastructure for passengers.

Proposed High-Speed Rail Corridors from Hyderabad

The Union Minister also highlighted three proposed high-speed rail corridors from Hyderabad, which are expected to boost regional connectivity.

The proposed corridors include:

  • Hyderabad – Chennai high-speed rail
  • Hyderabad – Bengaluru high-speed rail
  • Hyderabad – Pune high-speed rail

These projects together are expected to involve investments exceeding ₹50,000 crore.
