Once known for its pleasant atmosphere and migratory birds, the lake had turned into a dumping yard, causing foul smell and serious pollution. Pragathi Nagar Cheruvu, spread across nearly 169 acres, had gradually lost its charm due to uncontrolled dumping of garbage and animal waste.

- Dumping of chicken, meat, and fish waste along the roadside passing through the lake

30 Truckloads of Garbage Removed, More Cleanup Underway
HYDRAA began clearing waste accumulated along the lake bund on Monday.
Current progress of the cleanup drive:
- ✅ 30 truckloads of garbage already removed
- 🚛 Another 30 truckloads expected to be cleared
- ⏳ Entire waste removal to be completed within 1–2 days
Officials confirmed that all dumped waste along both sides of the road connecting Kukatpally and Pragathi Nagar will be removed completely.
Fencing and Surveillance to Prevent Future Dumping
To stop further damage, HYDRAA has decided to implement strict preventive measures.
Planned protection steps include:
- Installation of fencing around the lake
- CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring
- Regular patrolling and surveillance
- Legal action against violators
So far, four vehicles involved in illegal dumping have been caught and cases registered.
