Gruha Jyothi Scheme Benefits 52.82 Lakh Families, Telangana Pays ₹3,593 Crore for Free Power

Telangana Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka said 52.82 lakh families benefit under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, with the state paying ₹3,593 crore for free electricity up to 200 units.

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said that 52.82 lakh families across the state are benefiting under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free electricity up to 200 units to eligible households.

He shared these details while replying to a question raised by Vijayashanti in the Legislative Council, highlighting the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on families.

₹3,593 Crore Paid to Power Companies

Bhatti Vikramarka informed the House that the Telangana government has so far paid ₹3,593.17 crore to electricity distribution companies on behalf of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries.

He said the large-scale support reflects the state’s priority to ensure affordable electricity for households, especially those from middle- and lower-income groups.

Beneficiaries Across Power Distribution Zones

Providing a zone-wise breakup, the Deputy Chief Minister said:

  • 25,35,560 beneficiaries fall under the SPDCL jurisdiction
  • 27,46,938 beneficiaries come under the NPDCL jurisdiction

Together, these figures take the total number of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries in Telangana to 52,82,498 families.

Scheme Brings Social and Economic Relief

Bhatti Vikramarka said the Gruha Jyothi scheme has brought significant relief to families by reducing monthly electricity expenses.

According to him, the scheme has:

  • Improved household financial stability
  • Supported better health and living conditions
  • Helped families invest more in their children’s education
  • Contributed to overall social and economic progress

He added that free power up to 200 units has become a key support system for lakhs of families across the state.

Government Reaffirms Commitment

The deputy Chief minister reiterated that the Telangana government remains committed to welfare-oriented schemes like Gruha Jyothi, which directly impact daily household expenses and quality of life.
