The Telangana government has launched Pranam Day Care Centres across the state to improve the health, safety, and well-being of senior citizens. The initiative was inaugurated by Revanth Reddy at Praja Bhavan on January 12.

What Are Pranam Day Care Centres?
Pranam Day Care Centres are specially designed facilities for senior citizens where they can spend the day engaging in healthy activities and receive essential services at no cost.
At present, the centres have started in selected locations, while the government plans to set up one multi-service day care centre in every constituency in the coming months.
Timings of Pranam Day Care Centres
- Open on all days except Sundays and government-declared public holidays
- Timings: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Medical and Health Services for Senior Citizens
Each Pranam Day Care Centre will provide:
- Free medical check-ups once a week
- Free medicines related to existing health conditions
- Linkage with geriatric wards in government hospitals
- Regular health awareness programmes
Officials said these services are aimed at early detection of health issues and promoting active ageing.
Facilities Available at the Centres
Senior citizens visiting Pranam Day Care Centres can access multiple facilities, including:
- Library with books and newspapers
- Indoor games for mental and physical recreation
- Internet facility and computers
- Seating and resting areas
- Community interaction spaces
Free Food Menu for the Elderly
Nutritious food will be provided free of cost to all registered senior citizens. The menu includes:
- Ragi Java
- Ragi Sangati
- Upma
- Fresh fruits
The food is planned keeping in mind the dietary needs of elderly people.
Awareness and Engagement Programmes
The centres will regularly conduct awareness sessions on:
- Health and wellness
- Digital literacy
- How to avail government welfare schemes
- Inter-generational bonding
- Parents and Senior Citizens Welfare laws
- Cyber crime awareness and public safety
These programmes are aimed at empowering senior citizens and keeping them informed and socially connected.
Current Locations and Expansion Plan
At present, 39 Pranam Day Care Centres are being set up across districts. These include:
- Hyderabad – 2 centres
- Medchal – 2 centres
- Malkajgiri – 2 centres
- Rangareddy – 2 centres
- Hanamkonda – 2 centres
More centres will be launched soon to ensure one centre per constituency across Telangana.
Central Government Support
Officials said that the Central Government is providing ₹12 lakh per year for each day care centre. These funds will be released annually to support operations, services, and infrastructure.
