Fake Currency Racket Busted in Hyderabad, Three Arrested with Counterfeit ₹500 Notes

In a major breakthrough, Gudimalkapur Police in Hyderabad busted a counterfeit currency racket and arrested three persons who were allegedly involved in exchanging fake Indian currency notes. The arrests were made on January 17, 2026, at Avalon Apartments, Nanal Nagar, following credible information about the illegal movement of counterfeit money.

Police Act on Tip-Off at Nanal Nagar
According to police officials, Gudimalkapur Police received specific intelligence around 5:00 pm about a counterfeit currency deal taking place in the area.
- Police rushed to the spot with mediators
- Three persons were found arguing over fake currency notes
- All three were apprehended on the spot and shifted to Gudimalkapur Police Station for questioning
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their roles in the counterfeit currency exchange.
Accused Brought Fake Currency From Rajasthan
Police identified the arrested persons as:
- Babulal Jatkukna (23) – Private worker, resident of Rajasthan
- Dharmveer (22) – Student, resident of Rajasthan
- Aweys Hersi Salad (30) – Student, resident of Tolichowki, Hyderabad; native of Kenya
Police said the first two accused travelled from Rajasthan to Hyderabad to deliver fake currency, while the third accused acted as the receiver. Other suspects involved in the racket are currently absconding.
Fake ₹500 Notes, Phones and Bike Seized
During the operation, police seized the following items from the accused:
- 8½ packets containing 10 bundles of fake ₹500 notes
- 4 mobile phones
- One Dio motorcycle (TG 07 N 4481)
All seized items have been taken into police custody as evidence.
Case Registered Under BNS Sections
Based on the confessional statements, Gudimalkapur Police registered a case under Crime No. 20/2026 invoking relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused were later remanded to judicial custody.
The arrests were carried out under the supervision of senior officers from the Golconda Zone.

Police officials said a detailed investigation is underway to:
- Trace the source of counterfeit currency
- Identify the distribution chain and network
- Nab other accused who are currently on the run
