Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma Attends Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura Statehood Day Celebrations in Hyderabad
The Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, participated as Chief Guest in the Statehood Day celebrations of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura held at Lok Bhavan, Hyderabad. Organised under the aegis of the **Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat** initiative, the event celebrated the rich history, vibrant culture, and progressive aspirations of these three Northeastern states.

The Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, participated as Chief Guest in the Statehood Day celebrations of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura held at Lok Bhavan, Hyderabad. Organised under the aegis of the **Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat** initiative, the event celebrated the rich history, vibrant culture, and progressive aspirations of these three Northeastern states.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor highlighted the role of such programmes in fostering mutual understanding, strengthening cultural bonds, and celebrating India’s vast diversity in languages, traditions, tourism, sports, and best practices. Reflecting on the natural beauty and cultural significance of the Northeastern region, he called for greater national and international focus on Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura as prominent tourist destinations owing to their unique heritage and cultural vibrancy.
The Governor paid tribute to the historic attainment of full-fledged statehood by these states under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, acknowledging their remarkable journey of progress and commending the resilient spirit of their people. He noted that Hyderabad remains a welcoming destination for all, reflecting the city’s inclusive ethos, and highlighted the recently concluded Telangana North East Connect Techno-Cultural Festival, which featured interactive sessions, cultural exhibitions, and youth exchanges to promote stronger inter-state ties.
“These celebrations reaffirm our shared commitment to unity in diversity, sustainable progress, and cultural preservation, ensuring equitable growth for every region of our nation,” the Hon’ble Governor said.
Video messages from the Hon’ble Governors of the three states, Shri Indrasena Reddy Nallu (Tripura), Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla (Manipur), and Shri C. H. Vijayashankar (Meghalaya) were screened during the programme. Representatives from the participating states delivered brief addresses on their regions’ distinctive features.
The event was enriched by cultural performances, including a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore through the song “Tomaro Ashimee” and ‘Chitrangada’ dance (Tripura), traditional Manipuri dance, and Khasi folk songs from Meghalaya, alongside other displays of Northeastern cultural diversity.
The celebrations were attended by Shri M. Dana Kishore, IAS, Special Chief Secretary to the Governor; Smt. Sonibala Devi, IFS, Vice Chairperson & Managing Director, Sports Authority of Telangana State; Shri Goutham Sawang, IPS (Retd.); Dr. Chranjith Ghosh (Tripura); dignitaries and guests from the three Northeastern states; and officers and staff of Lok Bhavan.
