GHMC Plans ₹345-Crore Six-Lane Flyover to Ease Traffic in South Hyderabad, Check Details

GHMC plans a ₹345-crore six-lane flyover between Mylardevpally–Shamshabad Road and Katedan Junction to reduce traffic congestion in south Hyderabad and ease airport travel.

In a major infrastructure push to ease traffic congestion, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed the construction of a six-lane flyover in the southern part of Hyderabad. The flyover will connect Mylardevpally–Shamshabad Road with Katedan Junction and is estimated to cost around ₹345 crore.

The project will be taken up under GHMC’s Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (H-City) programme, aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing travel delays in high-traffic corridors.

Designed Based on HMDA Traffic Study

The flyover project has been designed based on a detailed traffic study conducted by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Key design features include:

  • A six-lane main flyover between Mylardevpally–Shamshabad Road and Katedan Junction
  • A three-lane unidirectional down-ramp at Katedan Junction
  • Modern traffic engineering solutions to handle heavy vehicle flow

GHMC officials said that surveys, investigations, detailed design, and construction works will be carried out by the selected agency as part of the project execution.

Big Relief for Airport and Local Commuters

Once completed, the flyover is expected to drastically reduce traffic congestion and travel time in the area. The project will be a major relief for:

  • Commuters travelling to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
  • Vehicles heading towards nearby residential localities
  • Traffic moving to and from industrial areas around Katedan and Shamshabad Road

Daily commuters currently face long delays at Katedan Junction, especially during peak hours. The new flyover is expected to streamline traffic flow and improve road safety.

Part of South Hyderabad Infrastructure Upgrade

GHMC officials said the six-lane flyover is part of a broader plan to strengthen south Hyderabad’s road infrastructure, keeping in view rapid urban growth and increasing vehicle density.

With the implementation of this ₹345-crore flyover project, south Hyderabad is set to get a significant infrastructure upgrade that promises faster connectivity, reduced congestion, and smoother airport access.
