Global joint venture UPC Volt will invest ₹5,000 crore to establish a 100 MW AI-ready data centre in Bharat Future City, boosting Telangana’s ambition to become India’s AI data hub.

Telangana has secured another landmark investment under its Telangana Rising 2047 vision. UPC Volt, a joint venture between Netherlands-based UPC Renewables Group and VOLT Data Centers, will set up a 100 MW AI-ready data centre in Bharat Future City with an investment of ₹5,000 crore.

The investment was finalised during the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, where the ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation, led by A. Revanth Reddy, held discussions with the company’s leadership. An MoU was signed to this effect.

100 MW Data Centre Powered by Renewable Energy

The proposed facility will be supported by a matching 100 MW round-the-clock renewable energy project, ensuring that the digital infrastructure runs on carbon-free power.

The data centre will be integrated with Telangana’s Green Open Access framework, enabling direct sourcing of renewable energy and establishing a sustainable, power-first operating model.

Key highlights of the project include:

  • 100 MW AI-ready data centre at Bharat Future City
  • ₹5,000 crore investment over five years
  • 100 MW renewable energy support facility
  • Focus on energy-efficient, high-performance AI infrastructure

Employment Boost for Telangana

The UPC Volt project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities:

  • Over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase
  • More than 800 direct and indirect jobs during operations

Officials said the project will also strengthen the local ecosystem for AI, cloud computing, and advanced digital services.

High-Level Talks with UPC Volt Leadership

The Telangana delegation held detailed discussions with senior leadership of UPC Volt and UPC Renewables, including:

  • Han de Groot, CEO, Volt
  • Steven Zwaan, Co-founder, UPC Renewables APAC
  • Alok Nigam, CEO, UPC Renewables India
  • Vikas Sharma, Assistant Vice President, UPC Renewables India

The talks focused on Telangana’s long-term vision for AI infrastructure, sustainability, and global competitiveness.

Telangana Aims to Become Global AI Data Centre Hub

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed happiness over the investment secured by D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT and Industries. He said Telangana’s goal of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047 will be driven by high-calibre digital infrastructure while maintaining a strong commitment to net-zero development.

The IT Minister said Telangana is aggressively promoting AI data centres by offering incentives for:

  • High-density GPUs
  • Large-scale AI training compute
  • Advanced liquid cooling technologies

He added that under the 2047 vision, Telangana is developing three dedicated economic zones for the service sector, manufacturing, and agriculture.

Part of Telangana Rising 2047 Vision

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy was also part of the delegation that participated in the meeting. The UPC Volt investment further strengthens Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for AI-ready, green, and future-focused data centre projects in India.

With Bharat Future City emerging as a key digital infrastructure hub, the state continues to attract global players aligned with its vision of sustainable and technology-driven growth.
