GHMC Orders Closure of Slaughterhouses and Meat Shops in Hyderabad on January 30

GHMC has ordered the closure of all slaughterhouses and meat shops in Hyderabad on January 30 to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced that all slaughterhouses and meat shops within GHMC limits will remain closed on January 30, in observance of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Meat Shops and Slaughterhouses to Remain Shut

According to GHMC officials, the closure will apply to:

  • All cattle, sheep and goat slaughterhouses under GHMC
  • All retail meat and beef shops within city limits

The decision aims to ensure respectful observance of Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom day across Hyderabad.

Decision as per GHMC Act

The civic body stated that the order has been issued based on a Standing Committee resolution and in accordance with Section 533(b) of the GHMC Act, 1955. The rule empowers GHMC to order closures on important national occasions.

Strict Enforcement Ordered

GHMC has directed all concerned departments and officials to:

  • Ensure strict implementation of the closure order
  • Extend full cooperation to municipal enforcement staff
  • Take action against any violations reported on January 30

Public and Traders Asked to Cooperate

The Corporation has appealed to:

  • Meat shop owners and traders
  • The general public

to cooperate with the closure as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation.

Hyderabad to Observe Gandhi Martyrdom Day

January 30 is observed nationwide to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice, and civic authorities in Hyderabad are taking steps to ensure the day is observed with due solemnity.
