Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud have expressed deep grief and shock over the death of Excise Constable Soumya, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack by ganja smugglers.
In a statement, Mahesh Kumar Goud said the news of Soumya’s death while undergoing treatment at NIMS Hospital was extremely painful and distressing. He said the constable had suffered serious injuries while trying to prevent illegal ganja smuggling in the line of duty.
Describing the incident as a major loss, he said that laying down one’s life while safeguarding public safety was an act of supreme sacrifice that would always be remembered. He termed the attack a blot on democracy and said the tragic incident had deeply shaken him.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Mahesh Kumar Goud assured that the government would extend all possible assistance to them. He stressed the need for stringent action against the drug mafia and smugglers to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The Telangana Congress chief also demanded the strictest punishment for those responsible for the attack and asserted that lawlessness would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
