KTR Alleges Police Misuse in Municipal Elections, Demands Fresh Polls in Telangana

KTR alleges police misuse in municipal elections and demands fresh polls in key Telangana municipalities, accusing Congress of coercion and intimidation.

BRS working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress government of misusing police machinery to influence municipal election outcomes in Telangana. He said the alleged actions undermined the people’s mandate and weakened democratic values.

KTR made the remarks during his visit to Adilabad, where he met party leaders and reviewed the political situation.

Allegations of Intimidation and Inducements

KTR alleged that during and after the municipal elections:

  • Opposition leaders were targeted using police action
  • Attempts were made to lure councillors with financial inducements
  • Physical intimidation was used in certain municipal councils

He claimed that such actions were aimed at altering the electoral verdict.

Kyathanpally Municipality Controversy

Referring to Kyathanpally municipality, KTR said the BRS and its ally secured a majority in the council but alleged that efforts were made by the ruling party to take control despite fewer seats.

He further alleged that councillors were offered large sums of money to switch sides but declined the offers.

Alleged Incidents in Other Municipalities

KTR also highlighted incidents in other towns, stating that:

  • BRS leaders were arrested after raising concerns
  • A councillor was reportedly attacked during a dispute
  • Opposition leaders were allegedly targeted selectively

He accused authorities of acting with bias and called for accountability.

Demand for Fresh Elections

KTR urged the State Election Commission to conduct fresh polls in Kyathanpally, Ibrahimpatnam, and Khanapur, with strict monitoring measures such as CCTV surveillance and senior officials’ supervision to ensure transparency.

BRS to Continue Protest

The BRS leader said the party will continue to raise its voice against what it described as the erosion of democratic practices and will seek fair electoral processes across the state.

KTR’s allegations of police misuse in municipal elections have intensified the political debate in Telangana. By demanding fresh polls and stricter oversight, the BRS leadership has called for measures to safeguard the integrity of local governance and ensure that election outcomes reflect the people’s mandate.
