South Central Railway (SCR) on Tuesday unveiled a next-generation Rail Parcel Application, India’s first digital e-marketplace for rail-based parcel services, at a Rail Parcel Logistics Conclave held at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad.

The application was formally launched by Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager, SCR, in the presence of senior railway officials. Describing the initiative as a major leap in digital transformation, he said the app enables seamless door-to-door parcel booking and delivery, doing away with physical paperwork and long queues at parcel offices.

He added that the Rail Parcel Application offers real-time shipment tracking, automated alerts, transparent selection of logistics service providers, and secure digital payment options, making parcel movement faster, more reliable and customer-friendly.

In its pilot phase, the application has been rolled out across key cities including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Chennai.

On the same occasion, SCR also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) to undertake a comprehensive study of the freight logistics market in the South Central Railway zone. Under this collaboration, IIMB’s Centre of Excellence in Supply Chain Management will carry out demand forecasting, analyse modal competitiveness, hold industry consultations, assess infrastructure gaps and prepare a strategic roadmap to enhance freight growth and strengthen rail-led logistics.

Senior officials of SCR, including Additional General Manager Satya Prakash and heads of various departments, were present at the event.
