ESG as a Strategic Growth Driver
Delivering the inaugural address on “Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) and India’s Journey to a $30 Trillion Economy by 2047,” Shri Ram Mohan emphasized that India’s development vision extends beyond GDP expansion to building a resilient, inclusive, globally competitive, and environmentally sustainable economy.
He highlighted that SEBI’s BRSR framework represents a decisive shift from voluntary sustainability disclosures to structured, measurable, and comparable reporting standards. Standardized ESG disclosures, he noted, enhance transparency, boost investor confidence, and strengthen global trust in Indian enterprises.
Shri Ram Mohan further observed that global institutional investors are increasingly integrating ESG parameters into their investment decisions. Robust BRSR disclosures help reduce information asymmetry, lower the cost of capital, and facilitate access to long-term global investments essential for infrastructure, manufacturing, digital transformation, and renewable energy growth.
Positioning sustainability as a strategic enabler rather than a compliance requirement, he stressed that responsible governance, efficient resource utilization, inclusive workforce practices, and climate-risk management will play a central role in strengthening India’s economic credibility and long-term growth trajectory.
ESG in Practice: From Compliance to Leadership
The inaugural session was followed by a foundational technical session titled “ESG Foundations & Practice,” led by Dr. Sujiv Nair, Global Chief People Officer, MSN Laboratories.
Dr. Nair focused on translating ESG principles into practical, day-to-day business decision-making and long-term corporate strategy. He explained how environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and ethical governance directly influence risk mitigation, brand reputation, investor trust, and organizational resilience.
Through interactive discussions and case-based exercises, participants explored key themes including climate change adaptation, circular economy models, waste and water management, employee well-being, occupational safety, stakeholder engagement, and board-level oversight. He underscored that ESG has evolved into an integrated management discipline and encouraged organizations to transition from reactive compliance to proactive sustainability leadership.
The session also introduced leading global ESG reporting frameworks and demonstrated how structured disclosures enhance credibility with regulators, investors, and other stakeholders.
Building ESG-Ready Leadership
HMA President Shri Alwala Devender Reddy stated that the programme aims to cultivate ESG-ready leadership across organizations and support institutions in aligning profitability with responsibility and sustainable long-term value creation.
The two-day programme attracted participation from executives representing public sector enterprises, manufacturing firms, service organizations, and management professionals across diverse sectors.
Established in 1964 and affiliated with the All India Management Association (AIMA), HMA continues to play a pivotal role in advancing professional management practices, leadership development, and responsible business transformation in India.
