Hyderabad: Tension gripped Medak town in Telangana after police arrested senior BRS leader and former Municipal Chairman Mallikarjun Goud on Saturday morning.

According to police sources, a large contingent of personnel reached Goud’s residence early in the day and took him into custody. Cases have been registered against him under charges of attempt to murder and alleged misconduct with a Dalit woman activist, invoking provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. BRS leaders have strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false and politically motivated. They claimed that during the recent municipal election campaign, party workers led by Mallikarjun Goud had attempted to prevent the MLA and his supporters from allegedly distributing cash and liquor to voters.

According to BRS leaders, tensions escalated during the confrontation, and they alleged that the MLA drove his vehicle into a group of BRS workers, injuring at least four people. The party leaders asserted that their workers were the actual victims and accused the police of acting under political pressure by registering cases against them instead.

Police officials stated that the matter is under investigation and that appropriate action will be taken based on evidence. Security has been tightened in Medak town to prevent any further escalation of tensions.
