AI Impact on Jobs: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has raised serious concerns over the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), warning that it could lead to large-scale white-collar job losses and affect the country’s economy.

Speaking at the inauguration of AVN Lakefield Global School in Ibrahimpatnam, the Chief Minister stressed the urgent need for education reforms and skill development to tackle the AI-driven future.

AI Threat to White-Collar Jobs

The Chief Minister said:

  • AI is advancing rapidly like a “tsunami”
  • It may lead to loss of white-collar jobs
  • This could pose a serious threat to the economy

He emphasized the need to shift focus towards blue-collar jobs and skill-based employment to adapt to changing times.

Focus on Education Reforms

The Telangana government is introducing major reforms in education to prepare students for future challenges.

Key initiatives include:

  • Establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools (YIIRS)
  • Schools planned in 100 constituencies
  • Each school to accommodate 2,500 students
  • Work has already started in 59 schools

Concern Over Falling Education Standards

The Chief Minister expressed concern that:

  • Many students are unable to read at their grade level
  • Learning outcomes in schools are declining
  • This trend poses a risk to the future of the nation

Government Spending and School Data

According to the government:

  • Around Rs 1.08 lakh is spent per student in government schools
  • About 8.3% of the state budget is allocated to education
  • Telangana has:
    • 26,000 government schools with 18 lakh students
    • 11,000 private schools with 33 lakh students

He noted that many parents prefer private schools due to quality concerns.

New Education Model and Facilities

To improve quality, the government plans to:

  • Introduce Nursery to Class 12 system in selected government schools
  • Launch model schools in Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region (CURE)
  • Provide transport facilities for students
  • Offer breakfast and lunch with proper nutrition

Encouraging Sports Along with Education

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of sports:

  • Students should excel in both education and sports
  • Government will support talented athletes
  • Focus on preparing for future events like the Olympics

A Call for Change

He urged policymakers and stakeholders to reflect on gaps in the education system and take necessary steps to improve quality.
