In a major boost to India’s digital ambitions, Google has officially broken ground on a $15 billion Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, its largest-ever investment in India, under a 2026–2030 plan. The project, developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, will feature India’s first gigawatt-scale AI hub with three data center campuses. The initiative is currently underway.

Groundbreaking Ceremony at Tarluvada
The groundbreaking ceremony held at Tarluvada, Visakhapatnam, saw participation from:

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the project as a “cornerstone of India’s AI future”, aligning with the vision of Narendra Modi for Viksit Bharat 2047.
Boost to Andhra Pradesh and India’s Tech Growth
N Chandrababu Naidu stated that the AI hub will:
- Drive innovation
- Create high-value jobs
- Position Andhra Pradesh as a global digital hub
Thomas Kurian called it a “turning point for India’s AI-native future.”
Infrastructure and Community Initiatives
Beyond core infrastructure, the project includes:
- Subsea cable connectivity
- Clean energy integration
- Community-focused initiatives such as:
- Water conservation
- Fisheries digitization
- Women entrepreneurship programs
- AI skilling initiatives
Bharat AI Shakti Conclave and Industrial Corridor
With the launch of the Bharat AI Shakti Conclave, the project aims to:
- Build a broader AI industrial corridor
- Integrate local industries and SMEs into the global digital ecosystem
Skills and Workforce Development
Google will introduce the Skills Trade and Readiness (STAR) program, aiming to:
- Train more than 1,000 people
- Provide hands-on training in:
- Construction
- Welding
- Facility operations
This will help create a skilled local workforce to support digital infrastructure growth.
High-Performance AI Infrastructure for India
The Vizag AI hub is expected to:
