Hyderabad: In a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening management research and knowledge creation, Hyderabad Management Association (HMA), in collaboration with the Research Cell of Rishi UBR Women’s College, inaugurated the HMA–RISHI Management Research Centre – “PRAGNYA”, creating a dedicated platform to promote research excellence among management students, faculty, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders.

The inaugural programme was attended by Dr. Raghuram Bommaraju, Associate Professor, ISB, as Chief Guest, while Prof. V. Shekhar and Prof. S. Jeelani graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. The programme was presided over by Mr. Alwala Devender Reddy, President, HMA, in the presence of Mr. Sharath Chandra Maroju, Vice President, HMA, Mr. G. Vasudevan, Secretary, HMA, and Mr. Rajasekhar Kandepu, who will serve as Advisor to the Centre.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Alwala Devender Reddy, President, HMA, described the initiative as a defining moment not only for the institution but for Hyderabad’s management ecosystem.

“While Hyderabad is home to some of India’s finest universities and business schools, dedicated Research & Development centres in management remain rare. Most institutions focus on academic delivery, but few have created vibrant ecosystems exclusively for management research and innovation.

With the inauguration of the Hyderabad Management Association’s Rishi Management Research Centre – PRAGNYA, we are breaking new ground. This is not merely another academic department but a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to empower students, entrepreneurs, and communities through transformative knowledge. The Centre will nurture debate, experimentation, and intellectual curiosity, ensuring management excellence becomes a living force in shaping ecosystems, building institutions, and contributing to India’s journey from Amrit Kaal to Viksit Bharat 2047.”

He further emphasized:

“When Western strengths in data, technology, and execution are integrated with Indian empathy, ethics, and values, a leadership philosophy emerges that is sustainable, resilient, and uniquely unstoppable. India should aspire not only to become an economic powerhouse but also a moral and intellectual compass for global business through the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sharath Chandra Maroju, Vice President, HMA, said:

“Let this research centre not become a quiet library but evolve into a vibrant hub of debate, experimentation, and intellectual curiosity. I urge students to challenge existing paradigms, publish research, collaborate with HMA’s industry network, and push the boundaries of what they believe is possible.”

Mr. G. Vasudevan, Secretary, HMA, highlighted the importance of creating management frameworks rooted in Indian ethos while maintaining global competitiveness.

The distinguished guests collectively emphasized that management professionals must become catalysts of change and that research remains central to innovation, policy development, institutional excellence, and nation-building.

A major highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hyderabad Management Association and Rishi Group of Institutions. Ms. M. Rajasree, Secretary, Rishi Group of Institutions, signed the MoU and assured continued institutional support for the Centre’s growth and long-term initiatives.

The PRAGNYA Management Research Centre will focus on building a strong research culture, encouraging scholarly publications, strengthening industry–academia collaboration, and enhancing research competencies among students and faculty.

The Centre will be headed by Prof. R. Chandra Shekar, who will lead its academic and research initiatives.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from academicians, researchers, management professionals, and students, marking an important milestone in advancing management research and intellectual leadership in Hyderabad.
