A major demolition drive by the Hyderabab Agency (HYDRAA) triggered high tension in Iylapur village of Ameenpur mandal, Sangareddy district,

Hundreds of police personnel were deployed in and around Iylapur as local residents, flat owners and activists gathered to resist the demolitions. Tense scenes were reported when some protesters attempted to block demolition machinery, prompting police intervention and detentions in some instances.

on Saturday as officials moved in with bulldozers, police forces and revenue teams to clear what they describe as large-scale encroachments on government and inam lands.

According to HYDRAA officials, the operation targets unauthorized constructions allegedly raised on protected public land, including areas said to fall within lake Full Tank Level (FTL), buffer and catchment zones. Authorities claim that portions of the occupied land are environmentally sensitive and legally protected from private construction. The agency says the reclaimed land will be fenced after clearance to prevent fresh encroachments.

Residents of affected apartments, including families living in nearly 45 flats, protested the sudden evacuation notices, saying they were given little time to vacate and questioning where they would relocate.

Heavy police deployment amid protests

Hundreds of police personnel were deployed in and around Iylapur as local residents, flat owners and activists gathered to resist the demolitions. Tense scenes were reported when some protesters attempted to block demolition machinery, prompting police intervention and detentions in some instances. Earthmovers continued fencing and demolition under tight security cover.

Officials estimate that over 1,200 acres in and around Iylapur involve disputed government and inam land parcels, with several hundred acres allegedly under illegal occupation over the years. HYDRAA maintains the drive is part of a broader campaign to protect public lands and water bodies around Hyderabad’s fast-expanding urban fringe.

The demolition has now become one of the largest and most controversial anti-encroachment operations in the Hyderabad metropolitan periphery this year, raising renewed debate over illegal layouts, lake-zone construction, and accountability of developers who sold disputed properties to homebuyers.
