AINU Banjara Hills Launches Centre for Functional and Female Urology on International Women’s Day

The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) at Banjara Hills has launched a dedicated Centre for Functional and Female Urology ahead of International Women’s Day, aiming to provide specialised care for women suffering from urological conditions that often go untreated due to social stigma and lack of awareness.

Hyderabad: The Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) at Banjara Hills has launched a dedicated Centre for Functional and Female Urology ahead of International Women’s Day, aiming to provide specialised care for women suffering from urological conditions that often go untreated due to social stigma and lack of awareness.

The initiative was praised by IPS officer Shikha Goel, who described it as a transformative step toward advancing comprehensive, women-centric urological care and empowering women’s health.

The newly established centre focuses on conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections, bladder dysfunction and other complex urological disorders affecting women.

Key facilities at the centre

The centre integrates three major facilities under one roof to ensure holistic treatment:

  • All-Women Operation Theatre (OT): A surgical facility staffed entirely by women healthcare professionals including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses and OT technicians to ensure comfort, privacy and dignity for female patients.
  • Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation: A structured non-surgical programme offering pelvic floor muscle training and guided physiotherapy to help women regain bladder control and improve quality of life.
  • Urodynamic Studies (UDS): Advanced diagnostic tests to evaluate bladder function and identify conditions such as overactive bladder, urinary incontinence and neuro-urological disorders.

Addressing a long-ignored health issue

According to AINU specialists, many women silently suffer from urological disorders due to hesitation, lack of awareness and social stigma, often delaying medical consultation.

Sarika Pandya, Senior Consultant Female Urologist at AINU Banjara Hills, said the new centre aims to bridge this gap by providing evidence-based treatments, minimally invasive surgical options, pelvic floor rehabilitation and personalised counselling under one roof.

Consultant Female Urologist Deepti Sureka added that the initiative is designed to encourage women to prioritise their health without fear or embarrassment by creating a healthcare environment led entirely by women professionals.

Proven expertise in female urology

AINU’s female urology team has performed over 307 major surgeries in the past five years, treating complex conditions including urinary leakage, urinary fistulas, cystocele and female urethral reconstruction. The milestone paved the way for establishing the specialised centre.

The new facility will cater to patients across age groups—from adolescent girls to elderly women—providing diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, bladder pain syndrome and recurrent infections.
