In a major advancement for healthcare in Andhra Pradesh, the Asian Institute of Nephrology & Urology (AINU), Vizag, has launched the state’s first dedicated Robotic Surgery Programme for Urology and Nephrology, marking a significant milestone in precision-driven and minimally invasive kidney care.
With this initiative, AINU becomes the only single-speciality kidney care hospital in Vizag to offer advanced robotic-assisted urological and nephrology surgeries, strengthening its position as a regional leader in specialised healthcare.
The introduction of state-of-the-art robotic technology expands AINU’s existing minimally invasive surgical capabilities and enables the hospital to perform a wide range of complex procedures under one roof. These include robotic prostate surgeries, partial and radical nephrectomies, kidney transplants, reconstructive urological procedures, paediatric urology surgeries, and advanced cancer-related interventions.

Powered by next-generation robotic systems, the programme allows surgeons to operate with 3D high-definition visualisation, enhanced magnification, tremor-free movements, and superior precision through wristed instruments. These features translate into smaller incisions, reduced pain, minimal blood loss, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and improved clinical outcomes for patients.
The robotic surgery programme is led by a team of trained and certified robotic urologists, supported by advanced operating theatres, diagnostics, and a dedicated perioperative care team. With this launch, patients in Vizag and neighbouring regions will no longer need to travel to metro cities for high-end robotic kidney and urological surgeries.
Shri Sribharat Mathukumilli, Member of Parliament from Andhra Pradesh, welcomed the development, stating that the introduction of robotic technology in kidney care reflects Vizag’s growing stature in advanced medical services and will offer patients safer procedures and smoother recovery.
Dr G. Ravindra Varma, Managing Director and Senior Consultant Urologist at AINU Vizag, said the robotic platform enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy and safety. He noted that robotic prostate cancer surgeries, in particular, offer better tumour removal, reduced blood loss, shorter hospitalisation, and quicker recovery compared to conventional methods.

Dr Amit Saple, Executive Director and Senior Consultant Urologist at AINU Vizag, added that robotic-assisted surgery has transformed the treatment of complex urological conditions by improving outcomes while enhancing patient comfort.
Sandeep Guduru, CEO of AINU, said the integration of robotic systems underscores the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. He emphasised that the technology will allow AINU Vizag to deliver safer, minimally invasive treatments with faster patient recovery and improved quality of life.
With this launch, AINU Vizag further consolidates its leadership in urology and nephrology care, setting new benchmarks in robotic-assisted surgery and specialised healthcare in Andhra Pradesh.
