PM Modi’s Strong Pitch for a Healthy Nation
On January 28, 2025, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 38th National Games in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where 10,000 athletes from across the country will compete in various sports. During his address, PM Modi highlighted the alarming rise in obesity and related health issues in India, stressing that this trend is affecting people of all ages, including the youth. He warned that rising obesity is contributing to the growing prevalence of lifestyle diseases like diabetes and heart conditions.
He urged the nation to adopt healthier practices, advocating for regular exercise and a balanced, nutritious diet to combat obesity. “Figures show that our country is witnessing a spurt in obesity and related problems. This is a matter of concern because it makes our population prone to serious diseases,” PM Modi stated.
Encouraging Small Steps for Better Health
PM Modi also called on citizens to focus on two key areas for better health: exercise and diet control. He emphasized the need for daily physical activity, whether through walking or structured workouts. The Prime Minister further recommended reducing the consumption of unhealthy fats and oils, suggesting that people try to cut down on cooking oil by 10 percent each month for significant long-term health benefits.

He ended his speech by encouraging the sporting community, state administrators, and local leaders to play an active role in helping people make informed health decisions.
