How the Wildlife Survey Is Conducted
The Forest Department follows a scientific and systematic approach during the estimation process:
- Three days are dedicated to carnivore surveys using the trial path method
- Carnivorous animals usually move along fixed paths, making it easier to track:
- Footprints
- Scratches on trees
- Broken branches and markings
- Line transect surveys are conducted for herbivorous animals
- Herbivores are usually found within bushes and forest patches, which are documented through RBO line transect methods

- The All India Tiger Estimation 2026 week will be observed from 20th to 25th
- Data collection through line transects and trial paths will continue during this period
- The collected data will support national-level wildlife conservation planning
