Arun Kumar Upreti elected as new Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly

Upreti, the legislator from the Arithang constituency, secured 30 votes from 31 legislators in attendance, except Pawan Kumar Chamling, who was marked absent.

Gangtok: Arun Kumar Upreti has elected as the new Speaker of the Sikkim

Legislative Assembly.

Upreti, the legislator from the Arithang constituency, secured 30 votes from 31 legislators in attendance, except Pawan Kumar Chamling, who was marked absent.

Following the resignation of former speaker LB Das on August 16, Upreti is now the 11th

speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.

Sikkim Legislative Assembly has started its two day session here on Monday.

Chief Minister, PS Tamang introduced the First Supplementary Demands of Grants for

Rs 35972.27 Lakh to be considered on Tuesday.

Twelve Bills, including amendment bills have been introduced.The bills would be discussed

and passed on Tuesday.

Earlier, obituary reference to late legislator Tasa Tengay Lepcha ( 1974 – 79 National party

(Sikkim and 1989- 94 Sikkim Sangram Party) was made by the Speaker and Leader of the

House, CM PS Tamang and Two others.It was followed by silent tributes for 2 minutes to the departed soul.
