Hyderabad: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has raised alarm over the Narendra Modi government’s plans to conduct the National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) alongside the census starting this September.

Owaisi warned that if implemented, the situation seen in Assam would be replicated nationwide.

Referring to media reports, Owaisi highlighted that 28 individuals in Assam were declared foreigners and subsequently sent to detention centers. He expressed concerns that the Modi government aims to carry out both NPR and NRC across India alongside the census, despite a resolution passed in the Telangana Assembly which stated that only the census would be conducted in the state, excluding NPR and NRC.

Owaisi cautioned that integrating NPR and NRC with the census could lead to severe consequences across the country, reflecting the dire outcomes observed in Assam.
